Created in part of my 2020 12-Month Series, comprised of twelve 60cm by 80cm oil paintings, October depicts rushing water through an autumn forest in the Haliburton Highlands. This scene perfectly depicts what October represents to me: long afternoon walks in cottage country, crisp autumn air with that sweet earthy smell, the sound of rushing water connecting lake to lake, damp boots on a spongy forest floor and, though not pictured, my dog cheerfully prancing around mounds of colourful fallen leaves.
